TEACHING TIPS

Teaching– Teaching is the process of attending people’s needs. It is an art and science of helping others to grow in their knowledge and understanding. But more than that:

• Teaching is holding the hand of a young one and saying it is going to be fine.
• Teaching is giving a helping hand to others in achieving his/her goal.
• In another word, teaching is something which defines what teachers do.
• Teaching is unforgettable each day that you might be the only person who touches someone’s life.
• Teaching is the way you learn new things throughout your life.
• Teaching is the way which fixes you to be life-long learners.
• Teaching is constantly being aware of what you are doing wrong in the classroom and trying to find a way to fix them.
• Teaching is keeping up with both the latest research and honoring the enduring tradition.
• Teaching is pushing both yourself and students to discover new ways of learning.
• Teaching is the way, which makes you updated every day personally and professionally.
• Teaching is listing complaints from your student’s parents.
• Teaching is receiving rewards and respect from students/parents when you have done any good job.
• Teaching is always the most rewarding profession.

There are some effective teaching tips:

Be professional:

• Be professional in dress, manner and attitude from the first minute that you are present in the class.
• Use language appropriately.
• Act professionally in public.
• Speak clearly and loudly enough to be heard.
• Don’t be late for the class/es.
• State your pinion-let others know where you stand.
• Have a positive attitude.
• Establish a good rapport with parents. They are probably just curious about as you are about them.
• Keep good, strong lines of communication open between you and the parents.
• Don’t be afraid to call or meet the parents.
• Call or write to parents when their son or daughter does something goo or improves in class.
• Show students that you care about their lives and show parents that you care about their children’s progress.
• Ask for a student handbook and a teacher’s handbook. Be familiar with administrative expectations and procedures.
• Never touch your student.
• Remember that the way you solve problems will become a model for your students when they encounter problems.
• Never share personal information with your students. It is important to maintain, a teacher-student relationship with them.

Be prepared:

• Have a daily lesion plan well prepared.
• Always plan more for each class period.
• Always have examples ready that are relevant to the student’s lives.
• Always have an alternate explanation.
• Be flexible.
• Be confident enough always.

Be organized:

• It is important to feel prepared as well as look prepared.
• Thoroughly prepare lecture notes, mini-lessons, questions for discussion, and class activities each day.
• If you expect, your students to have all their materials, then you should have yours too.
• Set the grading criteria on all tests before giving them to the students.
• Try not to be absent.
• Ask the students for the school’s calendar so that you will know when students have days off and when other activities are scheduled.

Be patient:

• Give students enough thinking time.
• Don’t let your student answer in a few seconds, wait longer and don’t answer by yourself.
• If students don’t respond to a question right away, or she/he expresses confusion, try to explain again in simple language.
• Sometimes students can be absent so, don’t get frustrated to reschedule the assignments and tests.
• Accept that every student can’t be at the same level academically.
• Listen attentively to student’s problems.

Be a real person, and Honour each student as a real person:

• Treat your student with respect at all the time. Never embarrass the students or make them feel bad about themselves.
• Be firm.
• Be flexible, when needed.
• Don’t dislike any student.
• Encourage leadership and confidence in the students.
• Encourage students to dream.
• Appreciate students who do outstanding work.
• Recognize students, who need improvement.
• Always let students know when they have done a fantastic job.
• Don’t pretend yourself that I know everything. We all learn together.
• Admit when you are wrong.
• If you make any mistake, don’t give up, try harder until you get it right.
• Don’t be unapproachable.
• Never forget to answer with a smile after listing thank you from students.
• Be enthusiastic- it is an important ingredient for a good learning environment.
• Know student’s strengths and weaknesses.
• Be a good listener.
• Let students know that if they have any problem, they can share it in confidence with you.
• Let students know that you enjoy your job and that you want to be with them.

Be sensible with discipline:

• Establish firm ground rules regarding class conduct on the first day of class and stick to those rules.
• Always let students know, what you expect and follow through.
• Be sure to let parents know early if there is a problem
• Don’t argue with a student during class. After the class discuss the problems one-by-one.
• Don’t be too strict while taking classes.
• Always spared positive behavior and achievement.
• Don’t judge your students by your own personal standards.
• Make the rule and punishment reasonable.
• Never let them see you sweat.

Be aware of your own needs:

• Take time to deal with stress, when it does happen.
• Don’t involve in more activities. Involve that you can handle it.
• Give yourself relaxation time every day, whatever needed.
• Read and write for yourself.
• Strive for excellence, not perfection.
